Question 1: Unable to get stable waveform of on-load tap changer
Customer: After connecting all test cables and starting the test, the waveform displayed on the screen is unstable and fluctuates continuously. What are the possible reasons?
Manufacturer: This problem often occurs in field tests. Please follow these troubleshooting steps: First, check whether all A/B/C phase test wires are firmly connected and ensure good contact at the tap terminals. Second, confirm there is no serious oxidation on the switch contacts. Third, keep the signal wires away from high-voltage cables to reduce electromagnetic interference. If the waveform is still abnormal after the above checks, please contact us promptly and do not disassemble the tester by yourself.
Question 2: The measured transition resistance exceeds the normal range
Customer: The tester can capture the switching waveform, but the tested transition resistance value is higher than the standard limit. How should we handle this situation?
Manufacturer: This phenomenon may be caused by poor contact of the OLTC contacts or aging internal components of the tap changer. You can take the following measures: First, re-clean the contact surface of the on-load tap changer. Second, check if the test current setting (0.5A or 1.0A) matches the type of your transformer switch. Third, repeat the test for multiple times to verify repeatability. Question 3: Printer fails to print test reports
Customer: The test finishes normally and all data is saved, but the built-in thermal printer cannot output the paper report. What should we do?
Manufacturer: This is usually a simple fault. Please check the following points: First, confirm whether the thermal paper is installed correctly and the paper roll is not exhausted. Second, check if the print head is stuck or dirty. Third, restart the tester and try printing again. If the printer still cannot work, please contact our technical support team.
Question 4: The tester automatically shuts down during field test
Customer: When performing OLTC test in the substation, the main unit shuts down unexpectedly in the middle of measurement. Is the instrument damaged?
Manufacturer: In most cases, this is triggered by the overheat protection or power supply fluctuation, not permanent damage. Please follow the steps: Disconnect the power supply, let the instrument rest for about 30 minutes to fully cool down. Check the input power cable for loose connection.
